Oak is a Hardwood and gives a great level of heat over an extended period of time in comparison to alternatives. Oak is a very dense, slow burning wood and is a popular option for keeping the fire going well into the night/next day. Oak is best when mixed with a soft or medium wood such as Pine or Macrocarpa to establish the fire before using the hardwood.
Oak is also very popular for cooking, used in outdoor ovens and smokers.
